Capture 4d mesh from head mounted cameras 

Keywords: Motion capture, Facial animation, Pattern Recognition, Machine learning

The focus of this project is to generate a temporally stable mesh that matches the captured performance from two head-mounted cameras capturing the face. This may be achieved by first tracking markers or feature points in the face and finding matching patches from static scandata to reconstruct the full face. The project could also be solved using machine learning depending on the interests and competences of the student.

Solve sparse motion capture marker data to rig parameters

The focus of this project is to transfer the performance captured in a 4d mesh or sparse marker data of a face to parameters of an animation rig matching the same actor. This may be solved using either a numerical approach or using machine learning depending on the interests and competences of the student.

Facial hair removal in scan data

The focus of this project is to investigate and implement methods for facial hair removal in scan data. When acquiring mesh data of a person's face or body using off the shelf photogrammetry software, a person's hair or peach fuzz creates artifacts or noise in the data that has to be removed manually by artists. The main objective is to acquire only the skin surface without the hair but an extension could also be to capture and reconstruct the hair strands.
