About the position
We're seeking an individual with a strong background in complex environment creation, impressive skills in Houdini, and a good understanding of DMP. The role is a combined role where you spend 80% of your time as an Environment lead and 20% as Head of Environment. As the Environment Lead, you'll be responsible for establishing the technical approach, structure, and layout of CG environments, enabling other artists to contribute with components that are then assembled into combined environments ready for next stage production in Animation, FX and Lighting.
In addition to day-to-day operations, you'll play a key role in long-term strategic management of the department and its collaboration with representatives in other locations. You'll ensure quality and consistency in the creative output and long-term vision of workflows.
As the Head of Environment, you'll lead the department and be a crucial part in the future development of both tools, workflows but also of the artists as well.

What you will get to do
Interpret and establish 3d scenes for environments based on Concept art and Reference imagery according to the Director & Supervisor’s instructions;
Plan, Structure and Separate environments into assets to be distributed to asset creation teams for finalising
Assemble, sanity check and distribute environment scenes for use in intermediate production towards Animation & FX, and final frame rendering in Lighting
Understand the entire asset/environments creation process and approving the work of team members
Offer technical solutions and verify solutions proposed by team members
Create and adapt materials and models from references and concepts
Establishing best practices for the Environment teams
Work closely with Producers and Coordinators to establish and manage the project team and schedule, to ensure that work is delivered on time
Strategy, Quality and Development
Together with Head of VFX help formulate, maintain and manage long-term strategy of the department aligned with Company strategy
Maintain a consistent quality of output in accordance with the individual projects and company standards and visions
Keep up to date with industry standards, new developments techniques and toolsets Propose and oversee the development of new workflows, techniques and toolsets
Staff responsibilities
Ensure that there is up-to-date documentation for tools and workflows. Manage the training and integration of new artists into the team
Responsible for career development, performance evaluation, performance management, mentoring, and coaching for the artists in the department
Planning and Production
Work with lead artists, supervisors and department managers to assign and build teams for projects, assigning individual artists to tasks for projects to ensure successful and efficient delivery
Ensure project methodologies, quality and schedule expectations are consistent and achievable
Meet with clients if required to provide guidance
Be part of the recruitment process of new artists for the department
Communication, Inter- and Intra-departmental
Regular department meetings to identify pipeline or interdepartmental issues, deliver company information and build a team feeling
Collaborate and communicate with other departments, project teams and other functions of the company
Bidding
Responsible for the bidding, or delegating the bidding for new projects as well as ensuring the accuracy of all bids that come from the department
Create and update bid templates
What you bring
Knowledge of Blender or Maya
Good Houdini knowledge
Required to have at least 5 years of work experience in the industry
Be able to define new tools and workflows, streamline processes and improve overall efficiency
Able to work from photo reference or concept art when available
Capacity to work collaboratively with a team, even under tight deadlines and time constraints
Knowledge of efficient work methods for scattering, instancing and data management in large scale scenes enabling revisions and client feedback to be implemented with minimum production overhead and rework
Expertise in modeling and texturing techniques both hard surface and organic assets
A thorough understanding of texturing software such as Substance Painter and Substance Designer
