Goodbye Kansas London is looking to welcome a Senior Lighting / Lighting Lead to the team.

The ideal candidate for this position must be passionate about VFX and have ambition to push the boundaries of photorealism. Using commercial and proprietary software and tools you would be responsible for the final 3D scene assembly, creating lighting and render setups to facilitate producing top-notch visuals for VFX film and tv. Knowledge sharing is also important as helping each other is a highly valued characteristic of Goodbye Kansas culture.

Responsibilities

  • Lighting shots as briefed by the Visual Effects/CG Supervisor
  • Work closely with CG Supervisors to determine the best approach to solving CG challenges and developing the final look
  • Scene assembly using GBK asset management tools and pipeline
  • Prepare master lighting  setups to be shared amongst the team
  • To optimize scenes efficiently for rendering
  • Developing shots in collaboration with the shot Compositor
  • When required, perform more generalist tasks such as modeling, texturing and lookdev
  • Staying on schedule and meeting set deadlines while maintaining the highest levels of quality
  • participate in regular department meetings and provide information on workload and possible issues to the HO Department

Required skills

  • 5+ years industry experience lighting photorealistic CG for live action
  • A strong knowledge of lighting techniques and physically based rendering
  • A great eye for detail
  • A thorough knowledge of Houdini
  • In depth knowledge of Vray, Arnold or similar raytracing renderer
  • Ability to pre comp renders in Nuke to present in lighting dailies 
  • Basic knowledge of other disciplines within VFX including Modeling, Texturing, Lookdev and Camera Tracking
  • A sound understanding of colour-space
  • Be comfortable working with a pre-set workflow or pipeline but also have the creativity and problem solving skills to work around issues
  • Self-motivated and highly organised
  • Strong communication skills (internal teams and external clients)
  • Ability to work under pressure, to multitask and to solve problems
  • A strong understanding of Linux/Unix based operating systems

Bonus skills

  • Experience with digital paint software Substance and/or Mari
  • Knowledge of Python and/or Mel scripting
  • Experience using Ftrack or similar project management tool
