Software Engineer - R&D
About the position
Goodbye Kansas Studios is growing its development department and is looking for another member to join our R&D Team. As a software engineer within the R&D team you will be a core part in developing new and innovative tools for our artists at the studio. We offer an exciting workplace with a wide variety of tasks and the possibility to deep dive into new technologies. You will also get the chance to learn and exchange knowledge across the development department in close collaboration with the Core and Pipeline teams.

What you will get to do
- Develop software to improve the creative process within VFX, Animation and Realtime content creation
- Contribute to developer and user facing documentation
- Work with agile development using scrum
- Develop new innovative tools based on state of the art research publications
- Collaborate closely with artists and drive development initiatives
- Write efficient code to enable and empower artists to produce higher quality content
- Work alongside and collaborate with the other development departments at the studio
What you will bring
- Proven experience as a Software Developer, Software Engineer or similar role
- Linux experience and an understanding of modern system architecture
- Experience working with version control systems such as Git
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
- Good communication skills in written and spoken English
- Resourcefulness and troubleshooting aptitude
- Passionate about delivering high quality work
- Preferably, but not limited to, a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field
- Experience with C/C++ and Python
- Mathematical and computer graphics skills
- An eager interest in learning and exploring new technologies
Bonus points
- Familiarity with DCCs (Digital content creation) such as Maya and Houdini, including their APIs
- Experience with APIs and extension languages such as OpenEXR, Eigen, TBB, OpenCL, Numpy or Scipy
- Experience implementing machine learning algorithms
- Experience implementing multithreaded algorithms
- Experience using software profiling and optimization tools, such as VTune and Valgrind
