The Role
We are looking for a Senior Character and Creature Artist to join our new team in Mumbai as Goodbye Kansas expands into India. This is an important role within our global character and creature pipeline, working closely with our teams in the UK and Sweden, helping to grow the studios' established workflows in the newly opened Mumbai location. Reporting to the Head of Build, this role will shape high-quality characters and creatures for cinematic, VFX and real-time projects. You will play a key role in setting creative and technical standards while working closely with artists across our global studios.
What You'll Do
- Contributing to character creation, creature development and digi-double assets
- Collaborating closely with surrounding departments such as face modeling, rigging,animation and cfx
- Working from scans, concept art and references to produce clean, production-ready assets
- Taking assets all the way from modelling , sculpting, UV unwrapping and texturing with production-ready topology to final look development and fur grooming.
- Troubleshooting asset related issues and supporting creative direction with strong visual fidelity
- Providing technical and creative feedback to maintain high-quality standards
- Documenting best practices and helping improve asset workflows across global teams
- Supporting and mentoring fellow artists in Mumbai and beyond
- Using Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Mari and Houdini for output in Vray Solaris.
What You Bring
- At least 5 years of experience in VFX or animation
- Strong skills in organic and hard surface modelling with clean topology
- Extensive knowledge in human and animal anatomy and the understanding of how to implement it in creative creature development.
- Strong sculpting skills
- Confident shading knowledge with experience working in V-Ray or similar path-tracer, PBR workflows and shading across a wide material range
- Experience in skin and fur shading.
- Proficiency in ZBrush, Maya, Houdini, Substance painter, Mari and vray or similar path-tracer
- Ability to work independently and deliver on time
- Positive, team-focused communication and problem-solving
- Experience in grooming workflows.
- Experience creating garments in marvelous designer and integrating them into a vfx pipeline with proper topology etc.
- Comfortable collaborating closely with VFX and CG Supervisors, presenting daily submissions and clearly communicating creative feedback.
- Comfortable working remotely and communicating across international teams
- Ability to interpret feedback and translate it into clear, actionable revisions
Nice-to-have
- Working knowledge of Unreal Engine, especially for asset integration and look development
- Prior experience collaborating across distributed teams and time zones
