Senior Face Modeler
About Us
Since 2014, we’ve been bringing imagination to life through world-class technology and extraordinary talent. As a global studio spanning Scanning, Mocap, VFX and Animation, our employees are part of shaping what’s next.
The Role
The Facial Department at Goodbye Kansas plays a key role in bringing digital characters to life. As a Senior Face Modeller, you’ll report to the Head of Department and be responsible for creating high-quality facial sculpts and shapes that capture realistic performance and expression.
Working from scan data, reference photography and concept art, you’ll combine strong artistic skills with solid technical understanding of topology, deformation, and FACS-based workflows. You’ll collaborate closely with Rigging, Animation and Lookdev teams to ensure assets meet both artistic and production requirements, while also supporting process development and guiding less experienced artists within the team.
What you’ll be doing
- Create high-quality face neutrals and facial shapes from scan data, reference photography and concept art by using the proprietary toolset developed at Goodbye Kansas.
- Produce detailed, realistic digital sculpts that accurately capture anatomy and performance nuances.
- Ensure models meet both artistic and technical standards for topology, deformation and facial fidelity.
- Collaborate closely with the Head of Department and teams across Rigging, Animation, Lookdev and Art.
- Integrate and optimize assets for both offline rendering and real-time (Unreal) environments.
- Support the development and refinement of departmental workflows, tools and best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex facial modelling or deformation challenges.
- Mentor junior artists and contribute to knowledge sharing within the Facial Modelling Department.
What you’ll bring
- Strong understanding of facial anatomy, topology, edge flow and deformation.
- Proven experience creating face neutrals, FACS-based shapes and complex blendshape networks.
- Skilled in digital sculpting and modelling within Maya, ZBrush, Mudbox, Wrap 3D, Substance Painter, Photoshop, Unreal.
- Experience working with 3D scan data and translating it into clean, production-ready geometry.
- Ability to create correctives and non-linear blendshapes that maintain realistic volume and motion.
- Solid understanding of how facial modelling interacts with rigging and animation pipelines.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with an eye for quality and technical precision.
- Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills.
Even better if
- You have experience with surrounding disciplines like character modeling, lookdev and/or groom and are interested in doing work in those disciplines as well.
Who you are
- An experienced artist with a proven track record in facial or character modelling within VFX, games, or cinematic production.
- Action-driven and proactive, always looking for ways to improve workflows, tools, and results.
- A creative problem-solver who balances artistic quality with technical precision.
- Collaborative and approachable, building strong relationships with Rigging, Animation, and Lookdev teams.
- Curious and adaptable, eager to stay ahead of new tools, facial technologies and real-time workflows.
- Supportive and mentoring by nature, contributing to a positive, knowledge-sharing team culture.
- Reliable, organised and able to take ownership of your work from start to finish.
